Stained Glass: An Introduction
In this course Paul Drover introduces you to the craft of stained glass. You will learn the process step by step. Paul will show you how to transfer your design to the glass and cut the interlocking pieces. Then you will learn to polish the glass and solder it using the copper foil technique. Gain hands on experience while completing your choice of attractive sun catcher. No experience required, but register early, it is a popular class.

Natural Dye Workshop
Learn about plants and flowers and the beautiful dyes they make! In this one day introductory workshop craftsperson, Susan Furneaux, will take you through the process of preparing and dying fabrics with these natural treasures.

Jewellery Basics
You will be surprised at just how easy it is to get started making your own jewellery. In this introductory class Gina will show you how to get started. Instruction will include how to use glass beads and semi-precious stoned to make your own one of a kind pieces; and how to use crimps and tiger wire to give you pieces that professional touch. Students will learn the basics of jewellery making and be given ample time to work on projects and to develop ideas under expert guidance.

If you have tried stained glass in the past, and are interested in furthering your skills using the copper foil technique then this is the class for you. Paul Drover will guide you through the steps to create your own design, and depending on you individual level of experience show you the techniques to create three dimensional works, from colourful glass. You may bring your own pieces of coloured glass or purchase it from the instructor.

Easter Bunny Card Making Workshop
Come together and spend the afternoon creating adorable Easter cards in a variety of styles. Parent and child will work together to create 5 Easter cards just in time for Easter Sunday! Instruction will include tips for using both rubber and acrylic stamps.

Knitting Basics
Always thought you would like to knit, but never got around to it. In just four evenings you can learn the basics of knitting: knit, purl, cast on, cast off, increase, decrease, how to fix mistakes and follow simple stitch patterns. This course is designed as four short classes so you can go home and practice your new skills, and return the following week for troubleshooting.

Operation Homespun: Intermediate Knit

Traditional Newfoundland Rug Hooking (cancelled)
Years ago hooked mats were found in almost every Newfoundland home. Now you can learn the skills and techniques to recapture the tradition. This hands on class will show you how to attach burlap to a frame, transfer your design, select and cut fabrics, and learn how to hook your choice of design. You’ll learn the basics while completing a small rug/wall hanging of your choice. Instruction will also cover finishing techniques and hanging methods. Register early, this class is one of our most popular.

Rug Hooking Workshop: Let’s Face It
In this 3 week course participants will hone their hooking skills by completing a portrait; allowing the artist to discover how to represent shading and highlights, while constructing the specific tones and textures of their muse. Designs can be friends or foes, front on or profile, just bring along your choice (8 x 10 portraits).

Floral Rug Hooking: Spring Fever (EVENING DATES!)

Peek-a-Boo Quilt
Try out your quilting skills with 3D quilting! This interactive child’s play quilt, sized 40″ x 51″, has twelve “windows” made by using a block of novelty print fabric surrounded by four prairie points. These three-dimensional points are “opened” to reveal what lies beneath. This action creates a great game of peek-a-boo for young children where they learn that objects exist even when they are out of sight.

Quilt as You Go: Reversible Quilting
Using a unique three-layer reversible sewing and quilting technique, you will learn to make and sew both sides at once! The quilting is done as strips of fabric and batting are added, so when the last strip is attached the actual quilting is complete…just add the binding and your quilt is finished.

Oil Painting: Intermediate

Life Drawing (day change!!)
Learn how to observe and record the human form in this drawing class for a levels of experience. Jim Maunder offers individual and group instruction as participants complete a series of quick studies and sustained drawings. Nude and draped models, male and female, will provide the subject matter.

Intermediate Drawing: Portraiture
Learn how to capture the human face through quick studies and sustained drawings. Self portraits, as well as, male and female models, will provide subject matter. Artist Jim Maunder will work with students of all levels, though some experience is a required.

Intermediate drawing will build on the skills learned in the intro drawing course. The emphasis will be on drawing from observation. Learning to see more complex lines and shapes while still exploring value and space through the mediums of pencil, charcoal and pen and ink.

Watermedia Painting
Choose your water based paint and advance your painting skills in this class with Diana Dabinett. Through demonstration and hands-on experience you will learn techniques for achieving a variety of effects and complete a series of paintings. With Di’s expert guidance and feedback, you will learn about the principles of design and composition. Especially suited for continuing students with some previous experience working with water based paints (water colours, acrylics, or gouache).

Art: An Introduction
Get in touch with your inner artist this spring. “Art: An Introduction” is a low stress class that will help you explore and build on your creative abilities. Instructor/artist Laura Buchholz will introduce you to the skills and techniques of drawing, painting, print making, and collage as you experiment with a variety of artistic materials and media. Sewing Classes
Machine Sewing: An Introduction
This short course is an ideal choice for anyone who wants to get started machine sewing. You will learn machine set up, parts and accessories, cutting patterns, sewing straight and curved seams, finishing techniques and more. You will learn basic skills as you as you gain hands-on experience, follow a simple pattern, and complete elastic waist pajama pants and a gorgeous tote bag. No experience required.
Bring your own machine or request to use one of ours.

Sewing: Active Wear
Cutting and sewing with stretch fabrics requires special handling and sewing techniques. This introduction to stretch sewing is an excellent starting point. Instructor Jessica Waterman will show you how to get started making your own dance wear, skating costumes, and active wear. K nowing how to work with stretch fabrics creates opportunity for better fitting professional looking garments. Previous sewing experience is required, and experience using a serger is advantageous.

Contemporary Machine Embroidery
Painting with thread; a contemporary approach to machine embroidery used for quilting, patchwork and creating beautiful imagery on fabric. Experienced machine sewers will learn and use various techniques such as experimenting with tensions, appliqué and reverse appliqué, lace work and bicycle wheel. Follow a complete design process to create and mount your final land, ocean or cityscape.

Open Studio Times
Rug Hooking Open Studio
Fridays, 7-9 pm, February 5, March 5, April 2, etc…
Join Catherine McCausland on the first Friday evening of the month (7-9 pm) beginning February 5th for a rug hooking open studio. Bring your current rug hooking project and work on it in the company of fellow rug hookers. Catherine will provide help and guidance if you need it… Or treat it as a night out – it’s a great opportunity to meet new people with a common interest and share your enthusiasm for rug hooking and “show-n-tell”.

KNIT-WITS a knitting social
on the last Sunday evening of each month

Bring your current project, start a new one or dig out that long forgotten sweater from the depths of your closet… get motivated to knit! And if you’re new knitting, there will be plenty of help available to get you started and trouble shoot knitting difficulties.
Bring along your favourite books, magazines, patterns or fibres for inspiration! We’ll have a cup of tea (and treats if anyone feels like baking), you may also bring your own music for knittin’ and purlin’ …. all in all, it’s a fun night all about knitting (or crochet) …and it’s free!
Comic Jam

Join local cartoonist Wallace Ryan on the first Friday evening of the month (7-9 pm) beginning January 8th for a cartooning open studio. Bring your current project and work on it in the company of fellow cartoon enthusiasts. Wallace will also have different topics of discussion so that each Comic Jam helps budding cartoonists to develop their drawing, lettering, and storytelling skills. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about the world of professional cartooning and meet new people with a common interest. Comic Jams are free and welcome individuals with all levels of cartooning experience, young and old.
