ART CLASSES
Preschool Art Discovery (3-5 years)
Preschoolers will make important discoveries as they participate in art and craft activities with instructor Laura Buchholz. Participants will experiment with a variety of mark-making techniques using a variety of different drawing materials and paints. Instruction will also include a basic introduction to colour mixing, stitchery, clay and collage. Creative games, story telling, group circle times for songs, and show-n-tell are also included in the fun.

Jr. Art Explorers (5 & 6 years)
This introduction to art is designed specifically for 5 and 6 year olds. It is a mixed media class in which children work with paint, collage, print making, drawing materials and more. Instructor Laura Buchholz teaches basic art concepts, terms, skills and techniques. Classes include both group and individual instruction encouraging participants to express their creativity.

Art and Craft (7-11 years)
Budding artists use their hands to create a series fun projects using a variety of drawing materials and other creative media. Activities will include drawing, painting, print making, collage techniques, sculpture, and more. Outings to nearby galleries and parks may be incorporated, weather permitting. Classes include both group and individual instruction encouraging participants to express their creativity and challenge their current skills. New and returning students are welcome to this class taught by Laura Buchholz.

Art: An Introduction(10-15 years)
Get in touch with your inner artist this spring. “Art: An Introduction” is a fun and exploratory class that will help the student discover their creative abilities. Instructor/artist Laura Buchholz will introduce students to the skills and techniques of drawing, painting, print making, and collage; experiment with a variety of artistic materials and media. You may just surprise yourself and create a masterpiece (or several). All levels of experience welcome!

Cartooning and Comics (13 – 17 years)
An introduction to the art of comic books, cartoons and graphic novels. In addition to developing drawing skills, participants will learn the basics of penciling, inking and lettering. Both North American and Japanese styles of comics will be covered.
This class also includes a field trip to Downtown Comics.
6 Sundays, 2 – 5pm, April 25 – June 30, 2010

Pens, Pencils, Pastels (13 – 17 years)
This continuation of Sketching, Painting and Pastels is a great opportunity for past students to hone their drawing skills and allow the beginning artist to experiment with a variety of sketching mediums. Classes will include instruction and guidance in how to best chose your medium when wanting to represent an image with sketching and drawing; using ink, charcoal, graphite and pastel, etc. the artist will learn a better understanding of the importance of media choice and find which they are most comfortable and adept at.

Acrylic Painting (13 – 17 years)
In this 8 week course learn the basics for painting with acrylics and still have time to study for June exams! In this class students will learn basic colour theory…what is a blue red? How to mix colours, apply the paint for maximum effect and finish a chosen painting, based on an existing modern painting. Both beginners and experienced painters are welcome..it is always beneficial to learn more tricks!

Jewellery Basics (for parents and children…10 and up!)
You will be surprised at just how easy it is to get started making your own jewellery. In this introductory class Gina will show you how to get started. Instruction will include how to use glass beads and semi-precious stoned to make your own one of a kind pieces; and how to use crimps and tiger wire to give you pieces that professional touch. Students will learn the basics of jewellery making and be given ample time to work on projects and to develop ideas under expert guidance.
